THE FURY OF THE GOTHS

Περιγραφή

This book provides a comprehensive analysis of the origins and early history of the Goths, highlighting their distinctive features. It primarily concentrates on the arrival of the Thervingi tribe –related to but not identical with the later Visigoths– into Roman territories in Thrace (AD 376) and the immediate repercussions. By examining various political, military, topographical, and chronological aspects, it explores the subsequent Gothic uprising and the pivotal yet largely obscure Battle of Marcianople in early 377, during which the local imperial forces suffered a severe defeat.
